Hi, I am Steve Jones, director and founder of Sector39. I have been involved in grass routes permaculture projects since 1991, starting in Zimbabwe where I underwent permaculture training at Fambidzanai in Harare, and where I was caretaker of a permaculture farm. I completed a full Permaculture Design Certificate course at the Centre for Alternative Technology, Machynlleth Wales, with Mike Feingold 1995 before going on to found a permaculture community and farm which we named Chickenshack.
I have worked for he UK Permaculture Association as well as leading on many permaculture projects, and I became pemaculture tutor in 2010.
In 2015 S39 began working in Uganda through the Wales for Africa program and since then we have been developing a network of permacutlure trainers, practitioners and demonstration centres which is the reason behind this project.
Sector39 registered as a company limited by shares in 2014 but I had been trading under the name since 2005, running courses and developing educational gardens in schools. The name has its origins in-part from 39 London Street, Reading, where I was instrumental in establishing a rooftop forest garden above RISC, which flourishes to this day.
